You have to know why to build a NEW habit that stays,
A reason that whispers “keep going” on the hardest days.
Not just a tighter shirt sleeve or a smaller pants size,
But a future you’re proud of when you close your eyes.
You have to know why before lifting weights,
Because strength is a promise you’re making with fate.
It’s “I want more years walking, not watching from a chair,”
It’s “I want to climb my own stairs and still breathe easy air.”
Men and women get stronger to carry the life they love,
Groceries, children, suitcases, all the tasks spoken of.
A suitcase in one hand, a child in the other,
Still steady, capable, still someone’s rock of a friend, mother or father.
Get stronger to guard their bones from the fall,
So a trip on the curb doesn’t end it all.
Every session is a quiet shield for the day they slip,
A little more balance, a safer, surer grip.
Get stronger to soften the edge of pain,
To tame angry joints when it’s cold or it rains.
Muscle wraps the aching knees in a firmer embrace,
Turns “I can’t” into “I’ll go, just give me some space.”
Get stronger so blood and heart run clear,
So the doctor’s words shrink from threat to “you’re doing well this year.”
Less sugar in the bloodstream, less pressure on the heart,
At SuperSlow Zone —this is where it can start.
Get stronger for the days when hormones shift,
When sleep runs thinner and moods can drift.
Iron becomes anchor when the world feels strange,
Each slow, steady rep saying, “You can handle this change.”
Get stronger to feel at home in their skin,
Not chasing perfection, but power from within.
To stand a little taller when they enter a room,
To quiet the old stories of weakness and doom.
Get stronger so aging is living, not loss,
So they stay on the dance floor instead of the cross.
From 35 to eighty, still move,
To garden, to travel, to say, “My body’s proof I improve.”
You have to know why when the newness wears thin,
When the first wave of motivation has worn from your skin.
On those ordinary Tuesdays when you don’t want to try,
The habit returns only if you remember your why.
Maybe your why is “I want to play on the floor,”
Or “I want my heart to keep beating for more.”
Maybe it’s “I’ve decided I’m not done yet,”
And strength is the promise you choose to protect.
So write down or sing your why,
Let it echo in your mind and let it fly.
Because men and women train just today—
And live all their tomorrows their own powerful way.
